A two-month-old baby has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries following a suspected home invasion in Alice Springs. Two teenagers have been charged following a suspected home invasion at a home in Bohara Street, Larapinta, west of Alice Springs, about 2.30pm yesterday. Police received reports that two men had entered the home with a woman and four children, including a baby, inside.The adult woman was holding her two-month-old baby when one of the men allegedly attacked her with a blunt object. Her handbag and car keys were allegedly stolen, and the two teenagers then fled the scene on foot. The woman and her child were taken to Alice Springs Hospital, where the baby suffered serious head injuries. The baby was then airlifted to Adelaide for further treatment. The baby is currently in a stable condition at the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Detective Superintendent of Crime Paul Lawson described the incident as “absolutely shocking”.

Their families… I can’t even imagine what they’re going through.” The two offenders, aged 16 and 17, were arrested within an hour and a half of the alleged home invasion. They have both been charged with five offences including unlawfully causing grievous harm, aggravated assault and robbery, theft and aggravated burglary. The pair will appear in court in the Northern Territory today. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
