Australian boxer Sam Goodman’s world title fight with Japanese champion Naoya Inoue has been postponed until next month after he was injured in a sparring session.
Goodman suffered a cut above his left eye during his last fight Saturday morning.
He was due to fly to Tokyo next week to face undisputed world champion Inoue in a super bantamweight bout scheduled for Christmas Eve.
Goodman called it “an accident” and needed four stitches”.
His agent confirmed on Saturday evening that the fight will take place on January 24.

Australian heavyweight Justis Huni aims to climb further up the world boxing rankings when he takes on South African Shaun Potgieter for the WBO World Heavyweight Championship.
Before the rescheduled fight was confirmed, Goodman said he was concerned that he had missed his chance to face Inoue in the ring.
“I didn’t want to lose my chance,” the 26-year-old said.
“I want to fight this guy.”
Goodman said he had dedicated the “last 15 years” of his life to fighting for a world title.
He won all 19 of his professional boxing fights, including 8 by knockout.
Inoue, 31, holds the WBC, WBO, WBA (super) and IBF super bantamweight belts.
He is considered one of the best boxers in the world, with an impressive 28-0 record, including 25 knockout victories.
