Parents are being urged to return the product immediately, with authorities warning of “serious injury or death”.

An urgent recall notice has been issued for a popular Anko kids toy amid fears the “soft activity ball” poses a lethal threat to children.

The ball, which has rattles on each side, contains tiny plastic balls that authorities fear could come loose.

The Australian consumer watchdog issued the recall notice on Wednesday.

“There is a risk of serious injury or death from choking if young children put the small balls in their mouth,” the ACCC said in a statement.

“Stop using the product immediately and keep it out of reach of children.”

The ball was sold in Kmart and Target stores across the nation between August and October under the Anko brand.

It comes after Kmart customers were hospitalised after buying Anko’s Mr & Mrs Claus queen bed quilt cover set, with one Aussie mum telling A Current Affair that chemicals in the quilt gave her “gastro-like symptoms”.

The affected line of quilts has also been recalled.

Customers are being urged to return the ball item for a refund or call Kmart on 1800 124 125.
