A teenager and two men have been arrested following an alleged violent robbery on the Gold Coast that has led to a partial lockdown of the city. Exclusive footage captured by 9News shows one member of the trio being led out of a house in handcuffs after a six-hour standoff. The 17-year-old boy is accused of breaking into a home in Arundel with two other men wearing masks just before 5am.
9News captured the moment police swooped on the suspects. (9News) The trio allegedly arrived at the home in a stolen BMW, armed with guns and machetes, before threatening the occupants. Police said the three men and the teenagers took cash from the home and stole an Audi before fleeing to Gilston, 15 kilometres away, sparking a suburban manhunt. ”We’ve basically got every police officer available on the Gold Coast involved in this manhunt,” an officer told 9News. Gilston resident Isaac Lenton witnessed the trio hiding in bushes to evade police.
Police say two men and a teenager stole cash from the house and stole an Audi. (9News) “There were people running around and it looked like there was a shotgun hidden in the bushes,” he said. “A police car pulled up in front of our house and everyone was yelling and being told to get inside.”
It is alleged that three people arrived at the address in a stolen BMW, armed with guns and machetes. (9News) No one was injured in the incident. At 10.50am, police arrested three men, aged 36, 37 and 17, at a property on Worley Drive. 9News cameras also captured the moment two other suspects were detained. Investigations are ongoing.
