The actor made rare comments about ex-husband Tom Cruise, refuting suggestions their daughter’s trust fund had “started to work”.

Katie Holmes has denied claims that her daughter Suri is now the beneficiary of a “huge” trust fund provided by her ex-husband and estranged father Tom Cruise.

On Friday, the Daily Mail published an “exclusive” report that Cruise and Holmes’ 18-year-old daughter received “a large sum of money” following her birthday in April, when the trust fund “began to be used”.

The media quoted an “unnamed source” as saying: “Part of the divorce settlement is that Tom Cruise provided a trust fund to be shared with his daughter Suri Cruise when she turns 18, and the amount is quite substantial.

“She was allowed to access the money when she turned 18 in April. The rest of the money will not be available until she turns 30. The trust fund has been carefully calculated so that she will not be overwhelmed if she takes all the money at once.”

Holmes shared an Instagram post on Sunday that read, “Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet” (a quote incorrectly attributed to William Shakespeare), and this morning she explicitly addressed the report in another post.

The actor wrote under a screenshot of the article: “Totally false. Daily Mail, stop making this up.”

“Enough is enough,” she added in the caption.

The paper also claimed that Holmes, who is reportedly worth $US25 million ($39 million), had set up her own trust fund for Suri, but the actor denied this.

Cruise, meanwhile, is reportedly worth more than $600 million (AUD$938 million).

The former couple, dubbed “TomKat” by the media, became engaged in June 2005, just weeks after going public with their relationship.

They welcomed Suri in April 2006 and married in November of that year, before announcing their divorce six years later in June 2012.

A spokesperson for Holmes said at the time: “This is a private matter for Katie and her family.

“As always, Katie’s primary concern remains the best interests of her daughter.”

It has long been reported that Holmes’s breakup with Cruise was due to Holmes’s high-profile membership in the Church of Scientology.

Former Scientologist Leah Remini filed a lawsuit against the organization in 2024, claiming she was “stalked, surveilled, harassed, threatened and intimidated” by its members and addressed the circumstances surrounding Holmes’ abrupt exit from the church in 2017 and her divorce from Cruise.

“I didn’t know how much pressure she was under,” Remini said on “The Adam Carolla Show.

“I didn’t know she knew what was really going on. I didn’t know she was trying to save her daughter.”

In 2022, Holmes reflected on her divorce in an interview with InStyle, calling it an “intense” time.

She told the magazine: “I was getting so much attention and I had a small child.

“We had some funny moments out in public. A lot of people I didn’t know became my friends and helped us out, and that’s what I love about (New York).”

Holmes was awarded full custody of Suri. Although Cruise was granted ample visitation rights, InTouch Weekly reported in 2016 that the Top Gun star had not seen or spoken to his youngest child in two and a half years.

Suri further hinted at their estranged relationship when she decided to drop her last name at her high school graduation, instead using her first and middle name, Suri Noelle.

Holmes has previously spoken about shielding Suri from negative media coverage, telling Glamour magazine last April: “What’s really important to my daughter is that I really want to protect her because she’s been in the spotlight since she was a little girl.”

“I’m so grateful to be a parent, to be her parent,” she added. “She’s an amazing person.”
